Learn How You Can
Play With The PSO

The PSO Musicians

The PSO is a volunteer orchestra. Many players are music teachers in area schools. Some are students or graduates of the Eastman School of Music. Other members are fine amateur musicians who work in a wide variety of professions. Without exception, they are enthusiastic, dedicated musicians whose passion is to play fine music.

The musicians of the PSO, with the exception of the conductor and the concertmaster, are all volunteers from throughout the Greater Rochester area who dedicate their talent and time to rehearsing and performing on stage with the orchestra. Rehearsals and concerts are usually on Monday evenings in Penfield. There are four or five regular rehearsals for each concert, plus a dress rehearsal a day or two before the concert. Additional practice time at home is needed to prepare for each concert.

Many of our musicians are able to donate their time and money to support the orchestra in other ways as well. Some serve on the Board of Directors, some help organize our special events, and others serve as personnel director, music librarian, and a host of other activities to help the PSO run smoothly.

If you would like to play in the orchestra , you are welcome to contact us to arrange an audition if there is an opening for your instrument. In general, we usually need strings because there are so many chairs. Wind and percussion positions are usually filled, but we occasionally need substitutes. Please complete the musician's application and the personnel manager will contact you.
